C-IP2’s 2024 Annual Conference will explore the importance of exclusive rights in the patent and copyright industries, the historical basis for those rights, and what happens to innovators and creators if the rights are not protected.
We are pleased to announce that this year’s conference will feature Under Secretary of Commerce for Intellectual Property and Director of the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) Kathi Vidal as our Keynote speaker on Friday, October 18.

Attendees are responsible for submitting their own CLE forms to their respective state bars.
CLE forms will be provided after the conference to attendees who select one of the CLE registration options.

The USPTO’s recent (and rather unusual) proposal to change the law on terminal disclaimers and the Federal Circuit’s recent decision In re Cellect have both implicated the use of continuations and made that use more perilous. Continuations have been a significant part of patent practice for years, however, particularly in the life sciences. This panel will discuss continuations practice (along with the attendant issue of obviousness-type double patenting and terminal disclaimers), its importance to companies and how companies prosecute patents applications, and what the potential impact of recent court decisions and PTO guidance may be.
